Awesome Japanese Reef

Anagonbe has one of the nicest reef tanks I've ever seen. His tank measures 48″ W x 24″D x 24″ H, for a volume of 120 gallons but it looks much bigger because the fish are only 2-3"! Almost all of his corals are wild colonies.
Euipment:
- Wavebox, two seaswirl returns and a few Maxi Jet 1200 powerheads.
- H&S protein skimmer is used to reduce nutrients and a UV filter for water clarity.
- 3×150w Superkaru fixtures using two Deep Blue and one Aquablue lamp. In addition to this he uses multiple MT-250w DE Metal Halides (10K & 14K) and 2 other Mogul Based 250w Halides with blue filters. The 10K lamps on the left are to emulate the shallower water that these staghorns live in. The deep blue light on the right is to mimic the deepwater environment for the deepwater tabling acroporas.Check out these two videos of his tank, make sure to click on the HQ button (to view in high quality). VorTech MP10 pushes over 1,800 GPH!

Dana Riddle field tests the new Vortech MP10. You can view his findings at Advanced Aquarist. I wonder if the MP10's have as wide of flow as the Koralia 4, if so I may replace the Koralia's. Not only is the in tank footprint of the MP10 much smaller than the Koralia, it also doesn't heat up the tank because the motor sits outside of the water.

Carpet Surfing

I lost the Red Fin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis) today. The netting wasn't on tight last night and the wrasse went carpet surfing.
